A little over a year ago I completely transformed my body and to this day, I am still asked, how I did it. I’d like to start with what triggered me to go on my wellness transformation… I was involved in a very unsatisfying relationship, if you can even call it that. I always felt terrible after spending time with this individual. At the end of our last encounter, the person told me that I needed to get some confidence. I was ashamed of the way I looked in my bathing suit. I was also ashamed of my overall fitness level; I was always out of breath by the time I made it to the top of the stairs in the subway station and I had terrible “allergies” …I always felt congested and clogged up…and I was truly sick of it all…and decided to do something about it. I joined my neighborhood kickboxing club at CKO. I needed something aggressive to deal with my inner anger and self-hate, I was determined to beat the low esteem and poor self-image out of myself. I needed to release, and kickboxing was just the thing to help me deal with my pinned-up anger. I was more concerned about this than I was my weight. After several weeks into my new workout regimen, I also knew that I needed a good diet that would support me in transforming the overall condition of my health and I also desired a personal trainer, to really focus my efforts and to hold me accountable to my goals. My goals initially had nothing to do with my body composition, even though I was tired of being fat. I went to kickboxing 6 days a week and twice on Wednesday. Wednesdays was when Coach Wade taught the last class of the evening. I really enjoyed his class. It was fun yet challenging, he had good energy, and I appreciated his ability to give one-on-one feedback, even in a fully packed glass. After I learned that he offered personal training sessions, I was quick to engage him. Coach Wade took the time to do a full assessment of my fitness needs and wants. We developed S.M.A.R.T goals for me, took my measurement, body weight, discussed physical and psychological blocks and how to overcome them. Our sessions didn’t end at the end of the hour either. Coach would check up on my progress throughout the week and give me “extra” workouts to do on my own. I started to feel really good about myself and I started noticing changes in my breathing, my energy levels and increased endurance. This started to build my confidence tremendously. Coach also encouraged me to find a “diet” that works for me. He offered some suggestions, but this was also very personal for me. I discovered the “The Hot Belly Diet” by Dr. Susha Kshirsaga, which is based upon Ayurvedic health practices. This diet was designed to impact your metabolism at the cellular level. Yea, that’s what I needed. I needed to literally change my DNA to get rid of the toxic junk that was clogged up in my body…my temple. The diet appealed to me on a spiritual and physical level. It was ritualistic. Every vegetable, herb and spice served a specific purpose, and the daily routines help train my body into becoming a fat burning machine. Between my rigorous workout schedule and my uncompromising, yet very satisfying “diet”, I had every confidence in the world that I would transform my body into a shining example of good health. And so, it was. After a year of total commitment. Coach and I indeed became good friends. COVID-19 came along and completely changed the way we worked. Coach started an online fitness program, and he ran many fun outdoor bootcamps at the beach and public parks throughout Brooklyn and I continued to progress with my “diet” and health program. I started a blog to record all of the delicious new recipes I prepared and to share meal planning and meal prep tips…I had become quite the expert in this area. Meal planning and meal prep alone is a discipline that can transform your body if done consciously and on purpose. Overall, I lost 30 pounds. I lost inches from my thighs and waist, and I transformed my health. Today, I feel amazing! I love my new lifestyle and to honor it all, I am doing the Hot Belly diet for maintenance. Dr. K recommends we “detox on the equinox” …Springing right into it! If you want to also detox on the Spring equinox, download my outline of the “Hot Belly Diet” and watch all the toxic things in your life melt away…and I haven’t missed a beat with Coach. I still work out with him live, at least 5 days a week!!!
